North Cascades Wild Church partnered with Helping Hands Food Bank to respond quickly when federal food aid to our valley was abruptly cut, and together our community raised $7000 to keep food flowing to neighbors in need. We remain committed to supporting Helping Hands’ Marblemount distribution site and inviting continued generosity of food, funds, and time directed to this local hub of care.
About Helping Hands
Helping Hands Food Bank and Solutions Center is Skagit County’s largest direct food provider, distributing millions of pounds of food each year through its Sedro-Woolley hub and six distribution sites across the county, including Marblemount. Its mission is to nourish the community with kindness and respect, without judgment, ensuring that anyone who needs food can receive it without prequalification or paperwork.
More than a traditional food bank, Helping Hands offers a “solutions center” model that connects participants with additional resources such as assistance with housing, benefits navigation, and other supports that help people move from just surviving toward thriving. Volunteers and donors from across Skagit County make this work possible, turning community generosity into real meals and practical help for thousands of families every year.
Our November fundraiser
In November, when federal food aid to our area was suddenly cut off, North Cascades Wild Church invited members and friends to step into the gap so that households in Marblemount, Rockport, and Concrete would not lose access to basic groceries. Together, our small community contributed $7000 in gifts—some given directly to Helping Hands and some routed through our church website and then forwarded on—designated to sustain food distribution in the upper Skagit.
These offerings were an expression of our call to love our neighbors and to care for the land and people of this valley, ensuring that the burden of sudden policy changes did not fall hardest on those who are already most vulnerable. That initial response helped Helping Hands keep shelves stocked and doors open while they adapted to a new funding reality.
